STAENBERG
Marc Staenberg is an
entertainment attorney, with a strong background in both entertainment and business
transactions as well as litigation. Mr. Staenbergs practice includes the full range
of entertainment related legal services including representing entertainment companies in
business matters, film producers as production counsel, as well as writers, directors,
actors and other personalities. Mr. Staenberg remains active in the firms business
and entertainment litigation matters, including the successful representation of
songwriters (e.g., Ritz v. Gaye) and the landmark victory in BMI v. Hirsch.
Mr. Staenberg received his
Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1969 where he was on the
Deans List. Mr. Staenberg received his Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School-Newark
in 1973, where he was Associate Editor of the Rutgers Journal of Computers and the Law,
President of the Rutgers Society of International Law, a member of the Jessup
International Moot Court Team, and Vice President of the Association of Student
International Law Societies, the National Student Body of the American Society of
International Law. While at Rutgers Law School, Mr. Staenberg was a Research Assistant to
Supreme Court Justice (then Professor) Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In 1977, Marc Staenberg
received his L.L.M. from Georgetown University Law Center with a concentration in
international and corporate law.

Prior
to moving to California in 1980, Mr. Staenberg was an Attorney-Advisor in
the Department of Defense, Office of General Counsel (1973-1975) and a
Senior Attorney, Office of Legal Director, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission (1975-1980), in Washington, D.C.
Marc Staenberg is a member of the American Bar Association, Los Angeles
County Bar Association and the Beverly Hills Bar Association. With the
Beverly Hills Bar Association, he served for four years as Chairman of the
Entertainment Law Section (1989-1992), served on the Board of Governors
(1993-1997), is on the Resolutions Committee and Legislation Committee, and
is a Delegate to the California State Bar Conference of Delegates. In 1997,
Mr. Staenberg received the Beverly Hills Bar Association’s "Governor’s
Award." He is a Founder of the Los
Angeles Music Center and on its Legal Committee, and provides counsel to "A
Minor Consideration," an organization for child actors, past and present. Marc Staenberg is the author and/or editor of numerous articles and
entertainment related publications, and recently co-authored an article
entitled "Children as Chattels: The Disturbing Plight of Child Performers"
published in the Beverly Hills Bar Association Journal. This led to
Staenberg’s drafting and active participation in California legislation to
amend the "Coogan Law" to protect children in the entertainment industry.
